Marist Mission

Saint Peter Chanel Mission, Nairobi

  • Nairobi, Kenya
  • Since 2011
  • Parish and school

The mission combines a parish with a secondary school, and the two shape one another. Teachers are involved in parish catechesis; the parish raises the scholarship fund that keeps pupils from the settlements in school.

The community here is small — two priests and a brother — and depends heavily on a committed lay staff.

Activities of this mission

  • Parish ministry for a mixed urban community
  • Secondary school of some 600 pupils
  • Scholarship fund for pupils from the informal settlements
  • Adult literacy classes
  • Chaplaincy to a nearby hospital
