Marist Mission

Notre-Dame de Fourvière Parish, Yaoundé

  • Yaoundé, Cameroon
  • Since 1998
  • Parish

The parish serves a dense and growing quarter on the edge of Yaoundé. Three Marists live in the community here, working with a large body of catechists and lay leaders.

Much of the week is taken up with sacramental preparation, and much of the weekend with the small Christian communities that are the real backbone of the parish. The youth group meets on Saturday afternoons and is, by some distance, the noisiest part of the parish week.

Activities of this mission

  • Sunday and weekday liturgy in French and Ewondo
  • Sacramental preparation for some 400 catechumens a year
  • Twelve small Christian communities across the quarter
  • Youth choir, drama group and study support
  • Visiting the sick and the housebound

Life at this mission

  • Vibrant statue of the Virgin Mary in front of an ornate church facade.
  • Intricate facade artwork at Basilique Notre-Dame du Rosaire in Lourdes, France.
  • Colorful stained glass depicting saints and religious figures in a Brussels cathedral.
  • Detailed mosaic of the Holy Trinity at Fátima Sanctuary, Santarém, Portugal.
